This cookbook was a 1956 wedding gift to my mother. She's gone now — but her recipes aren't.

Volume 12 brings you into the Hefeteigspeisen chapter — the yeast doughs of a 1956 Bavarian kitchen. Every recipe here starts from one master dough, exactly as the book lays it out; the original builds more than twenty pastries, cakes, and breads on it. These ten move from Dampfnudeln steamed until they crackle, filled dumplings, cinnamon snails, and sweet pretzels through a braided loaf and Gugelhopf, up to the showpiece Bienenstich.
