In the spring of 1931, Lord Ashcombe's guests began playing a game of murder every Friday. Not everyone took to it at once, so on Tuesday evenings his secretary, Miss Pell, held a class: small plans, plain statements, and nobody laughed at for a wrong answer. This is her notebook of those twelve evenings, from the middle of March to the start of June.

Each case is a floor plan of the house, with 5 to 7 suspects and statements about where they stood, every one of them true. Place one suspect in every row and every column. The one suspect in the room with the body is the murderer. There are no numbers to fill in: it is called murder sudoku because of that one rule.

HOW IT WAS MADE
The puzzles, the suspects' statements and the step-by-step solutions are produced by the author's own puzzle generator, which is conventional software, not AI, and every case was checked by a solver that reasons the way a person does. The illustrations (portraits, furniture and floors) were generated with PixelLab, an AI image tool, then retouched to one house style and composed into each floor plan by the author. The writing around the puzzles (the story, the rules, the case titles and the phrasing of the hints and solutions) was drafted with AI assistance (Claude) and edited by the author.
