Under a huge pale moon, a faun dances and plays his pipes. His goats rise up on their hind legs to join him.

A fine art print of Faun by Moonlight by Léon Spilliaert, moody moon wall art for a dark academia study.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
Léon Spilliaert made Faun by Moonlight in 1900, when he was just 19. He worked on paper in Indian ink wash, black chalk and coloured pencil, building soft layers of charcoal, mauve and slate green. A faun from Greek mythology, half man and half goat, dances in silhouette while his goats rear around him.

Look closely at the shadows stretched long across the field, and the bare trees bending behind. Spilliaert grew up in Ostend on the Belgian coast and became one of the great Symbolists, artists who painted moods and dreams rather than stories. He admired Edgar Allan Poe and often worked at night. The original belongs to a private collection.

THE LOOK
Charcoal, mauve grey, slate green and moonlit ivory. Quiet, strange and atmospheric. Moody wall art for a dark academia study, a gothic bedroom or a minimal hallway.

GIFTING
An unusual gift for a birthday or a new home. Myth, moonlight and quiet magic.
