Pearl Bay Escape Room, a printable mermaid escape room party game with picture puzzles for ages 5 to 8: a golden pyramid on a sand island in turquoise water, a ring of pearls, a mermaid and a green sea turtle, seen from above

Designed by Creouts Publishing using original prompt(s) and AI (Claude by Anthropic). Illustrations made with AI image tools. Every puzzle is computer-checked to have exactly one answer.

PEARL BAY ESCAPE ROOM: a printable mermaid escape room party game with picture puzzles for ages 5 to 8
A big, bouncy wave has washed the pearls out of the Pearl Gate and away across the bay. Eight kind clams caught them and are keeping them safe, but a clam opens only for somebody who knows its secret number. Bimble the sea turtle (never in a hurry) and Tellina the mermaid need the players' help: win the eight pearl cards and open the Pearl Gate before the sun goes down.

THIS IS AN ESCAPE ROOM PARTY GAME, played with printed puzzle pages, envelopes and pearl cards at a table or around the house. It is not a book and not a worksheet pack.
The clues are in the pictures, so younger players can join in. The players do not need to read words: a grown-up reads one short note on each page aloud, and a LOOK picture shows the rule. The players read and write numbers up to 30.
Every solved puzzle wins a card. Collect all 8 to open the final lock.
Needs only paper, scissors and tape. No special paper or pens.

HOW IT PLAYS
- The players make two teams, the Starfish and the Seahorses. Each team solves four picture puzzles, side by side, so nobody waits
- Every puzzle is a different kind and gives one number from 1 to 30. The team finds its number on the Shell Board. Same little picture as on the puzzle page? The number is right, and the next clam (an envelope) may be opened
- Inside waits a pearl card. The 8 pearl cards are the pieces of one picture
- At the Pearl Gate everybody puts the eight cards together, counts the pearls in the three Gate Clams and adds up a small pyramid. Its top number opens the last envelope: the Great Pearl lights up the bay
- No host is needed to check answers. A full host guide is included

9 PICTURE PUZZLES, EASY TO HARDER
- Starfish team: Find the Twins (which fish has no twin?), Shell Stack (an adding pyramid), Swim Code (follow the arrows, one square each), Shell Squares (picture logic: one of each in every row)
- Seahorse team: Whose Shadow? (find the turtle's shadow), What Comes Next? (bead patterns), Bubble Path (a Pyramid Maze: count on by one), Clam Stack (add and take away)
- Everybody together: The Pearl Gate
- 4 kinds of math pyramid puzzle: adding up (Shell Stack), a counting Pyramid Maze (Bubble Path), adding and taking away (Clam Stack) and a count-the-pearls pyramid built from the cards (The Pearl Gate). Every sum stays within 20
- The maths is for ages 5 to 8: counting, number order, adding and taking away within 20. Each puzzle sits a step below the top of the age band, so a team can finish it together

PAPER PROPS TO CUT OUT
- 8 pearl cards (60 mm squares) that make one picture, like a jigsaw: each Gate Clam lies across four cards, so the players need all eight
- A bay map with two team tags, badges, 6 shell tokens for hints

NOBODY GETS STUCK
- Every number is checked on the Shell Board: a likely mistake shows the wrong picture
- Three hints for every puzzle: a nudge, the method, the answer. A hint costs a shell token, and the whole team must walk to the host sideways, like crabs, to fetch it
- An answer card, every solution explained, and every puzzle shown solved
- If the sun sets before the gate is open, nobody loses: everybody swims like a turtle and whispers until the gate opens

WHAT YOU GET (instant download, 5 PDF files)
- The kit, US Letter (35 pages)
- The kit, A4 (35 pages)
- A tablet copy of the kit for the host, with HINTS and ANSWER buttons on every puzzle
- Party extras, US Letter and A4 (6 pages each): invitations and thank-you tags with type-in names, a door sign, Photo-Booth Signs to cut out and hold up, four party games and a colouring page
- Free bonus folder (QR code inside): The Moonlight Swim, a bonus round of 4 harder puzzles for ages 7 to 9 (12 pages, with one more kind of math pyramid: One Wrong Shell), and an ink-saver edition of the whole kit

INSIDE THE KIT
- Host guide: what to print, how to fill the envelopes, a step-by-step script, and the Sunset Timer
- Bimble's story to read aloud and five true sea facts
- The bay map, team tags and badges with type-in names
- The Shell Board, 8 clam puzzle pages, 8 pearl cards and the Pearl Gate
- The ending to read aloud and certificates with type-in names
- 12 posters for the walls and 14 envelope labels

GOOD TO KNOW
- Digital download only: nothing is shipped.
- Ages 5 to 8. 2 to 10 players: two teams of 2 to 5, or one small team. Best with 4 to 8.
- About 40 minutes of play with two teams, close to an hour with the story and the ending. One small team that plays everything needs about 60 minutes, or about 35 with the shorter game in the host guide.
- Five- and six-year-olds will want a reader on their team and a little help with the sums at the last clams.
- You need a printer (colour looks best), 14 envelopes, scissors, pencils and tape. About 45 minutes to print, cut and fill the envelopes.
- Print at 100% (actual size), on one side of the paper.
- Play times are plans, not promises: the puzzles are checked by computer, but no real party has timed this game for us. Hints keep every team moving.
- A gentle story: nothing is caught, chased or harmed. The clams keep the pearls safe and give them back, and every pearl ends up where it belongs. No holiday in it, so it suits birthdays, playdates and family afternoons all year round.
- Not suitable for children under 3 (small paper parts).
- Love math pyramids? Creouts Publishing also publishes math pyramid puzzle books in paperback (search "Creouts Publishing" on Amazon).
