HOW TO PLAY
Gather a reader plus 4–30 players in a circle. Stories: the reader reads aloud and everyone passes one seat for every LEFT or RIGHT, even when the word means something else ("she LEFT the room"). Pause after each cue. The host hands the starter the present before the story. At THE END, the holder wins. With exactly 13, 17 or 19 players, call “One more LEFT!” after THE END and pass once more first. For 13–30 players in a story, use three presents started as evenly spaced as possible around the circle; all three holders win. Rhymes always use one present, whatever the group size: before verse 1, hand it to any player; read one verse, pass the present to someone who fits ("someone wearing red"), and keep going. If the holder fits, pass to the nearest other player who fits. If no other player fits, pass LEFT one seat. Ask who fits, then count seats both ways to the nearest other match; equal distance, pass toward LEFT. Whoever holds it after the last verse wins. With 14–30 players, at most 13 distinct people can hold the rhyme present, so some players will not get a turn.

The stories have 39, 43 and 49 cues and end different distances from the start, but the same player can win again depending on group size and starter positions. About two forward for every one back, with the back-steps in bursts of two or three ("wait, RIGHT, RIGHT!") and wrong turns that make the grown-ups laugh. With 4–12 players and one present, everyone holds it at some point and it never finishes with whoever started it. With 13–30 players, three presents travel together, started as evenly spaced as possible. This is a route check, not a promise that every seat has the same chance of winning. Allow about 4–6 minutes per story and 3–5 per rhyme including pauses; timings are estimates.
