Specifications

Christmas List Dash: match the secret list, and celebrate good ideas! Two teams guess festive answers together. Every listed match earns 2 points; another sensible answer earns 1. No popularity rankings, no strikes and no steals. The host rewards any answer that fits, and close calls always go to the team. The six listed ideas are designed for play, not survey results.

For a family gathering with two teams of at least 2 and a separate host (5 people minimum). Fun for roughly ages 7 and up (kids join with teammate help); a game takes about 20 to 30 minutes (our estimate, not timed with families). The very first cards are the funny ones: what would a reindeer wish for, what would a snowman avoid at the party, what does an elf complain about? Later cards mix in familiar Christmas traditions.

THE HOST'S JOB (three steps): read the prompt, glance at the private key (common alternatives are listed; accept clear synonyms), call 2, 1 or 0 and tick it off. The scoreboard has the round multipliers built in. The three-second rule settles anything else: close calls go to the team, so nobody argues. One adult hosts the whole game and does not join a team, because the key page shows every answer. Want the host to play? Start a new game with a different host and three different cards. Once the sixth row is found, finish the current pair of turns so both teams get equal turns, then end the round; nobody is left hunting for the last answer. One turn: Host reads 'a gift a reindeer might want'. Team A: 'carrots!' = 2. Team B: 'a heated sleigh seat!' = 1. Team A: 'carrots again?' = 0. Bright painted Christmas stickers and clear type keep it festive.

QUICKEST START: JUST 3 SHEETS, NO CUTTING
Print pages 2, 3 and 7 from your chosen edition. These give you host rules, scoreboard and private keys for Q01-Q04 (reindeer, snowman, elf and Santa prompts). Play any three; reserve the fourth for a tie. Keep page 7 hidden from players. Bring a pen, spare paper and a 10-second timer. You do not need to print the whole deck.

HOW TO PLAY
Flip a coin each round to choose which team starts. Teams alternate, up to six turns EACH; the round ends early once all six list rows are found (finish the pair of turns so both teams get the same number). They may discuss for 10 seconds before their captain gives one answer. Match an unused list row or a near cousin of it for 2 points: for the reindeer card, oats and hay count as the bag-of-oats row, and the private key lists the cousins. Another idea that fits the prompt earns 1. THREE-SECOND RULE: the host never debates; if a call is close, the team gets the higher score and play moves on. Mark used rows and write unlisted ideas down: repeats or synonyms cannot score again for either team that round. Passes, timeouts and non-fitting answers earn 0. Add up the turns played. When the round ends, reveal the rows nobody found; enjoy the answers nobody thought of.

Each team totals its own scores from the turns played, then multiplies by x1, x2 and x3 across three rounds. Highest combined total wins. Tie: both teams secretly write one answer to the spare prompt; score 2/1/0, with equal answers allowed to score. Higher score wins; if still tied, share the win. Host makes consistent judgment calls: this is a flexible list game, with no claimed survey popularity.

OPTIONAL BONUS
Two volunteers answer the same 10 F1 prompts separately, 90 seconds EACH. Player 2 waits out of earshot. Record words first and score after both turns: listed match 2, sensible other answer 1, pass/non-fit 0. Players may repeat each other’s answers. Combined 24 out of 40 completes the challenge. This bonus does not change the main winner. Add pages 4-6; repeat or omit this single bonus on replay.
