FACET: Faceted gouge cuts

A field of irregular, hand-cut looking pits that never repeat in an obvious way. In the file each pit is a sharp faceted cup; cut with a 3/4 in ball nose they soften into a rounded, scooped finish.

Designed by Roxford Carpentry, a custom carpentry shop in Jacksonville, Florida.

SUGGESTED BIT AND SETTINGS
- Finishing bit: 3/4 in ball nose, 0.024 in stepover, raster along the 48 in length (the setup used on the walnut sample)
- Starting speed and feed: 14,000 rpm, 150 in/min in hardwood
- Roughing: not needed
- For crisper, sharper facets use a smaller ball nose, such as 1/4 in at 0.020 in stepover
- The cut sheet walks through the full procedure step by step
