Pylonwell Trio Geometric Self-Watering Planter Set STEP, STL and 3MF Files

Pylonwell Trio is a three-size geometric self-watering planter for FDM printers. You download the files and print them. This is not a physical pot, and nothing is shipped. The listing images are renders of the model, not photographs of a printed planter.

Each size is an octagonal pylon: wider at the rim than at the foot, with four keel ribs. The grow pot lifts out. You fill the reservoir, set the pot back on its ledge, and a wick stack is designed to carry water up into the soil. A dipstick shows 25, 50, 75, and 100 percent while you fill. A saucer is designed to catch drips. An overflow hole on one corner is the full mark, and a fill port on the opposite corner is open from the rim down into the reservoir. The fill-port floor slopes inward.

What you get

- Sprout, Desk, and Shelf. Each size includes a reservoir, a grow pot, a wick stack, a dipstick, and a saucer.
- 15 parts in STEP, STL, 3MF and OBJ (mm), plus one view-only layout 3MF. Slice the STL or a part file in 3mf/. Edit the solid, or machine it, from the STEP. view-only/pylonwell-trio-layout-not-for-printing.3mf is a 1451.7 mm wide lineup for looking at the set. It is view-only, not for printing. The part 3MF files are meshes, not slicer projects. Sizes are in DIMENSIONS.md.
- Sprout is 86 mm tall and 96 mm across. Desk is 112 mm tall and 128 mm across. Shelf is 136 mm tall and 154 mm across. Shelf fits a 180 mm square bed.
- Reservoirs hold about 112 ml, 293 ml, and 610 ml up to the full mark. Soil cavities are about 213 ml, 566 ml, and 1048 ml. Those are empty-cavity CAD volumes, not a measured fill. A wick packed in the tube occupies about 4.6 ml, 6.8 ml, and 9.3 ml of the reservoir figure.

How it works

Pour through the fill port, or lift the grow pot out and use the dipstick. The overflow hole is the full mark: its sill is 4 mm below the grow pot, and the fill port's floor is higher and slopes down toward the cavity. The overflow is designed to let extra water leave instead of flooding the roots. The saucer is designed to catch that drip. Pack the wick tube with moist potting mix, or thread a short piece of cotton yarn through it. Drop the tube through the centre hole so the flange sits on the floor of the grow pot. Set the grow pot back on the ledge. The chimney stops about 4 mm above the reservoir floor.

Printing

Print upright. The parts are designed to print with supports off. PETG is the better choice for the reservoir. The reservoir wall is 2.6 mm and its floor is 2.4 mm. The grow pot wall and floor are 2.2 mm. The saucer wall is 2.2 mm and its floor is 2.0 mm. The wick tube wall is 2.0 mm and its flange is 2.2 mm. The dipstick blade is 2.0 mm thick. The raised bars on it are 1.6 mm long and 1.2 mm tall, so they are gauge marks, not walls. The fill port is open at the top and its floor slopes inward. The overflow roof is steeper than 45 degrees. The meshes were checked for a closed solid, wall thickness of at least 1.2 mm, overhangs, and clearance between the parts. They have not been printed on a physical machine.
