★ THE HISTORY
Congress's Flag Resolution of June 14, 1777 called for 13 stripes and 13 white stars on blue, but set no arrangement, so the circle is one of several period patterns.
Where historians disagree: The story that Betsy Ross made the first flag was first made public by her grandson William Canby in 1870. No document from the 1770s confirms it, and historians treat it as a family tradition.

A thoughtful gift for history lovers, teachers, veterans, re-enactors and anyone marking the 250th this Christmas.
