Seller's description

A keepsake Christmas ornament for the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, 1776-2026: the Appeal to Heaven, drawn from its documented historical design.

The green pine and the motto An Appeal to Heaven, flown by the first ships George Washington sent to sea in 1775. A Christmas tree on a Revolutionary flag.

The design: White field; green pine tree; the motto AN APPEAL TO HEAVEN. Around it: "250th Anniversary of the American Revolution" and 1776 – 2026.

★ DETAILS
• Glossy 3 mm ceramic, 2.76 in (70 mm) round
• Printed on the front.
• Includes a gold-toned hanging string.
• Printed to order in the USA

★ THE HISTORY
Joseph Reed, Washington's secretary, proposed in October 1775 "a flag with a white ground, a tree in the middle, the motto 'Appeal to Heaven'" for the schooners Washington sent to sea. Massachusetts adopted a white flag with a green pine tree and that motto for its navy in April 1776.
Where historians disagree: No original survives; the tree is drawn differently in every reproduction, and ours is our own drawing.
Sources: Naval Documents of the American Revolution, vol. 2 (Naval History and Heritage Command); Massachusetts Council resolution of April 29, 1776.

A thoughtful gift for history lovers, teachers, veterans, re-enactors and anyone marking the 250th this Christmas.

Colours on screen may differ slightly from the printed ornament.

Wording note: "250th Anniversary of the American Revolution" is descriptive. This product is not affiliated with any official commission.

Production partner disclosure: this ornament is printed and shipped by our production partner, Printify, from the design we created. The design is our own: each flag is drawn by our code from its documented historical specification.
