GETTING YOUR FILES
Safe, trusted download — straight from our Etsy shop.

START HERE — If you bought this on Etsy: your files are waiting in your Etsy account. The Etsy app can't download files, so open Etsy in your phone's browser (Safari or Chrome), sign in, tap your profile icon → Purchases and reviews → Download files. Save them to your phone before you start — then everything else in this kit works offline, right from your phone.

Two strangers. One vehicle. A handshake is not paperwork.

Every private sale ends the same way: one person drives off, the other walks away, and the only record of the deal is whatever got scribbled on the back of something. Then the registry bounces the transfer because the VIN is illegible, or insurance asks for a dated bill of sale nobody can find.

This kit is the paperwork, done properly, on your phones, at the curb: guided fields that can't be misread, the price in numbers AND words, the odometer stated honestly, the as-is terms in writing — and both parties walk away with the identical signed copy.

A bill of sale records the sale — it does not transfer the title. Your registry still does the transfer, and this kit says so right on the form, with a reminder to complete any official transfer form your state, province or territory requires.

THIS IS FOR YOU IF

- You're selling or buying a car, truck or SUV privately — Marketplace, Kijiji, Craigslist, a sign in the window
- You're standing in a parking lot with a stranger and a hand-copied VIN, hoping you got it right
- You sell or buy quads, motorcycles, snowmobiles or trailers and the "paperwork" is usually a handshake
- Your insurer or registry has ever sent you back for paperwork that was incomplete, undated, or unreadable

WHAT'S INSIDE — 7 PAGES

1. Cover / start-here page — what the kit is, the three formats, and the curb-side game plan in four steps
2. Filled-in sample bill of sale — a complete, realistic example (clearly fictional) so you can see exactly what "done right" looks like before anyone signs: VIN read off the dash plate, price written two ways, defects disclosed in writing
3. Bill of Sale, page 1 — seller and buyer details, vehicle year/make/model/colour, plate, and a dedicated 17-character VIN field with the "copy it from the dash plate, not the ad" rule
4. Bill of Sale, page 2 — odometer reading with actual / not-actual / exempt boxes, sale price in numbers and words, payment method and amount received, as-is acknowledgment with a known-defects disclosure line, included-items line, TWO signature blocks (plus optional witness) and the same-copy-both-phones rule
5. Second form: ATV / Motorcycle / Trailer — same protection for quads, bikes, sleds, trailers and small machines, with a frame serial/VIN field and an odometer/hour-meter line
6. At the Curb checklist — the 12 checks to run before money moves: VIN matched three ways, seller ID against the papers, the lien-check warning, registration in hand, keys counted, payment confirmed, plates and insurance sorted, transfer deadline noted
7. Legal protection page — what this kit is and is not, governing law, sign-only-what-is-true, and how to protect the personal information a bill of sale carries

THREE FORMATS INCLUDED — SAME KIT, THREE WAYS TO USE IT

You get all three files for the one price — same content, same fields, pick the way that suits you:

1. PHONE FORMAT — a separate reflowable mobile file you can read and fill in right on your iPhone or Android phone. Large tap-to-fill fields, an auto-filled date, and a built-in VIN check that warns you if the number isn't 17 characters. Best for the actual curb-side moment.
2. FILLABLE PDF — the full designed layout with real type-in fields (80 of them). Open it on your computer or phone, click a field, type, save. Best if you want it neat and typed before you meet.
3. PRINT PDF — the same designed layout, made for printing. Print it and fill it in by hand, or print your already-filled version. Best if you want paper in hand.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Download instantly after checkout — all three format files are in your Etsy download
2. Read the filled sample first (two minutes, saves ten arguments later)
3. At the vehicle: fill the form together, copy the VIN from the dash plate out loud, digit by digit
4. Run the curb checklist — especially the lien check — before any money moves
5. Both parties sign, then both phones photograph the signed copy. Identical copy, both pockets

Instant download. No waiting, no shipping, no subscription. Use it for every private sale your household makes.

PLEASE NOTE — TERMS, PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BUY

This is a general documentation template for private sales. It is not legal advice, it is not a government-issued form, and it does not transfer title or registration — your registry or licensing office does that, and may require its own official transfer form as well. Check whether yours does, complete it if so, and keep both documents together.

Governing law: This template is not written for any one state, province, or country. A bill of sale completed from this kit is governed by the laws of the state, province or territory where the vehicle is located and where the document is signed. Vehicle-sale, lien, odometer-disclosure and tax rules vary by location and change over time — if any wording here conflicts with your local law or your registry's requirements, local law prevails.

Never invent a VIN, an odometer reading, a name, or a history you cannot support. A false statement on a signed bill of sale can create legal liability for the person who signed it. This kit cannot guarantee that a registry will accept any document, that a vehicle is free of liens, or that a sale will not be disputed — that is what lien checks, inspections, and the registry are for.

Licence: Personal use only — one purchase covers your own household's private sales and purchases. Please do not share, resell, upload, or redistribute the file, or use it commercially (including for dealership or client work). Digital download only; no physical item will be shipped.

FAQ

Is this an official government form?
No. This is a private bill of sale template from PocketForms. It records your sale in a clean, complete, dated document. Your registry or licensing office handles the actual title/registration transfer, and many jurisdictions require their own official transfer form as well — the kit reminds you to check and to keep both documents together.

Does this bill of sale transfer the title to the buyer?
No — and any template that promises that is misleading you. A bill of sale is the record and receipt of the sale: who, what, VIN, price, date, signatures. The title/registration transfer happens at your registry. This record is what the registry, your insurer, and (if it ever comes to it) a court will ask you for.

What vehicles does it cover?
Cars, trucks and SUVs use the main two-page form. ATVs and quads, motorcycles, snowmobiles, trailers and other small machines use the second included form, which has a frame serial/VIN field and an odometer/hour-meter line for machines that have one. Boats with a hull ID number can also use the second form.

Can I fill it in on my iPhone, standing at the car?
That's exactly what it's built for. The included phone format has large tap-to-fill fields, fills in today's date for you, and warns you if a VIN isn't exactly 17 characters. The fillable PDF also works in the free Adobe Acrobat Reader app or in Files. No printer, no computer, no handwriting needed — though a print version is included too.

Where do I find the VIN, and why does it matter so much?
On the metal plate at the base of the windshield, driver's side (and usually on the door-jamb sticker too). Copy it from the vehicle, never from the ad or a photo of the ad. One wrong digit can stall a registration, break an insurance match, or point the paperwork at a different vehicle. The form has a dedicated 17-character VIN field, and the curb checklist has you match it three ways before money moves.

Should I run a lien check before buying?
Yes — before you pay, every time. If money is owed on a vehicle, the lender's claim can follow the vehicle to its new owner. Use your state/province lien registry or a VIN-history service (free to a few dollars) while you still have the choice to walk away. The kit's curb checklist puts this before the payment step, not after.

The vehicle is sold as-is. What if something's wrong with it?
Private sales are normally as-is, where-is, and final — which is exactly why the form has a known-defects disclosure line. Sellers: write what you know; it protects you from a callback. Buyers: inspect first, or pay a mechanic to; once you've signed an as-is bill of sale, the defects you accepted are yours. A warranty only exists if it's written on the form.

Will this work in my state / province?
The form is written as a general North American private-sale record — names, vehicle, VIN, odometer statement, price in numbers and words, payment, as-is terms, signatures — and it is governed by the laws of the state, province or territory where the vehicle is located and where it's signed. Local rules (transfer deadlines, taxes, required official forms, odometer exemptions) vary: check your registry's requirements and follow them where they differ.

Do both of us get a copy?
Yes — that's a core rule of this kit. Both parties sign, then both parties photograph or save the signed document on their own phones before anyone leaves, and confirm the copies match. A bill of sale only protects the person who can produce it.

Can I use it more than once, or share it with a friend?
Use it for every private sale and purchase your own household makes — buy once, use it for years. The file itself is licensed to your household only, so please don't share, resell, or upload the blank template; your friend needs their own copy. (The completed, signed copy of YOUR sale is of course shared with the other party — that's the point of it.)
