Flowers and a Watch Print, Abraham Mignon Dutch Floral Wall Art, Vanitas Still Life Poster

A pocket watch lies open on the ledge, ticking under a bouquet that is already beginning to fall.

A fine art print of Still Life with Flowers and a Watch by Abraham Mignon, vanitas floral wall art for a dark academia dining room.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
Abraham Mignon painted Still Life with Flowers and a Watch in the Dutch Golden Age, some time between 1660 and 1679. Poppies, roses, irises, tulips and snowballs burst from a stone urn against the dark. It looks like a celebration. It is also a warning.

This is a vanitas painting, a picture that reminds us all beauty passes. Look closely at the watch on the ledge, its blue ribbon trailing over the edge. Notice the snail, the butterflies and the drooping blooms. Mignon trained under Jan Davidsz. de Heem, the great flower painter, and never dated a single work. He died at 39. The original hangs in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.

THE LOOK
Flame red poppies, blush roses and white snowballs glowing against near black. Rich, lush and quietly dramatic. Dark cottagecore wall art for a dining room, a dark academia study or a moody hallway.

GIFTING
A beautiful gift for a housewarming, an anniversary or Mother's Day. Flowers that never fade, painted to remind us that real ones do.
