Seller's description

A shepherd brings his flock home along a path of evening light, under trees that were old before he was born.

A fine art print of The Beeches by Asher Brown Durand, Hudson River School forest wall art for a dark academia study.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
Asher Brown Durand painted The Beeches in 1845 for the New York collector Abraham Cozzens. A sunlit path runs through an American beech wood, and a shepherd and his sheep walk out towards open meadows and distant blue hills. Durand was one of the leading painters of the Hudson River School, the first great movement in American landscape painting.

Look closely at the left. A slender, pale-barked tree leans in front of the giant beeches and catches the light. Durand had seen John Constable's landscapes on a trip to England in 1840, and this painting shows what he took home: quiet, close looking instead of drama. The original belongs to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

THE LOOK
Deep greens, honey gold and a soft blue distance. Peaceful, deep and full of air. Forest wall art for a study, a reading room or a home library, and vintage wall art with a dark cottagecore calm.

GIFTING
A peaceful gift for a housewarming, a retirement or a new home library. A walk in the woods for any wall.

MORE
More landscapes in our Dark Romanticism Art collection: Wanderer above the Sea of Fog by Caspar David Friedrich and Night Travellers at a Cross by László Mednyánszky. For another great tree in warm light, see A Majestic Tree in the Evening Light by Oswald Achenbach.
