Judith Print, Gabriel Ferrier 1875 Biblical Painting, Femme Fatale Portrait Wall Art

She rests the sword across her knees and turns to look at us. Her mind is made up.

A fine art print of Judith by Gabriel Ferrier, biblical portrait wall art for a dark academia study.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
Gabriel Ferrier signed and dated Judith in 1875, while he studied at the French Academy in Rome after winning the Prix de Rome. Judith is the heroine of the Book of Judith, a widow who saved her city by entering the tent of the Assyrian general Holofernes and cutting off his head with his own sword.

Ferrier paints her as a calm, dark-eyed beauty in jewels and silk, her hand closed on the hilt. Look closely at her eyes. She is not afraid, and she is not sorry. Notice the gold diadem, the pearls in her black veil and the bracelets at her wrist, painted with the polish of the French academic tradition. Ferrier later succeeded Jean-Léon Gérôme as a teacher at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

THE LOOK
Crimson drapery, gold silk and a black veil against warm skin. Dramatic, sensual and composed. Portrait wall art for a dressing room, a study or a gothic bedroom, and dark romance decor with a biblical story behind it.

GIFTING
A striking gift for a birthday or a housewarming. A heroine who saved her people with courage alone.
