Highlights

Cute storybook-watercolor chibi of the first Black woman pilot in a brown leather flying cap with goggles, a white silk scarf, a belted olive flying coat and tall lace-up boots, one hand on her hip and a little wooden propeller in the other: "They said no. So I learned French."

THE STORY BEHIND IT
When American flight schools turned her away, she learned French and trained in France, and in 1921 she became the first African American woman to earn a pilot's license.

A proud, cheerful gift for pilots, flight students, aviation fans, history and French teachers, and anyone who turned a "no" into a plan. Great for Black History Month and Women's History Month.
