Fabric by the yard, wide backing, batting, binding, thread, a longarm quilter who charges by the square inch, and the 20 hours you spent cutting, piecing and binding: it all adds up. This calculator turns it into a true cost per quilt and a suggested price for the profit margin you want.

HOW IT WORKS
- Materials: type your supplies once as you bought them (a 15 yd bolt, 1 yd of 108 in backing, a 1000 m thread cone, 20 fat quarters). The cost per yard, meter or piece is worked out for you.
- Calculator: type the finished width and length. The quilt area in square inches fills in.
- Quilting: rate per square inch and minimum charge for a longarm service (or 0 if you quilt it yourself), plus a binding service if you pay for one.
- Pick each fabric and supply and type how much the quilt uses, add a fabric overage %, packaging and your hours for each step.
- Read the suggested price, then type your own price to see fees, profit, margin, earned per hour and price per square inch.
