Difficult Conversations is an interactive manager simulator that runs in your web browser. Prepare, choose what you say, and watch the employee react to every reply. Then read what they texted their friend afterwards.

Designed by an HR professional with 15 years of experience, and built on the frameworks I teach: COACH (Clarify, Observe, Address, Coach, Hold), SOBI for delivering feedback, and GROW for problem-solving.

THE THREE SCENARIOS

No. 01 The Slipping Star (foundational, about 25 minutes)
A talented coordinator has missed three deadlines in six weeks. Halfway through the conversation, she tells you she's been caring for her father. A performance ("can't") conversation.

No. 02 Core Hours (intermediate, about 25 minutes)
Your best analyst keeps arriving late on office days. Then: "Priya does it too, and nobody says a word." A conduct ("won't") conversation that ends with a written warning.

No. 03 The Last Conversation (advanced, about 35 minutes)
The full arc of a 60-day improvement plan: the PIP meeting, the midpoint review, the decision with HR, and the termination meeting, including "Is this because I complained?" and a request to resign instead.

All people, companies and events are fictional.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Download the ZIP from your Etsy purchases and unzip it.
2. Open the "01-App" folder and double-click Difficult-Conversations-Simulator.html. It opens in your web browser.
3. Start with the Briefing Room, or go straight to a scenario.

No install, account, subscription, hosting or internet connection needed. Works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on a computer, tablet or phone.

I designed the simulator, chose every scenario and HR approach, and directed, reviewed, edited and tested it before release.
