Backyard Birds of Missouri Poster Print, Identification Chart with Latin Names, Wall Art

Backyard Birds of Missouri is a chart of 16 birds you can see from a kitchen window in Missouri, laid out like a vintage field guide: each bird drawn in a matching style, with its common name and its scientific name in italics. It includes the Missouri state bird, the Eastern Bluebird.

THE 16 BIRDS
Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialis), Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis), Indigo Bunting (Passerina cyanea), Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata), Tufted Titmouse (Baeolophus bicolor), Carolina Wren (Thryothorus ludovicianus), White-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta carolinensis), American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis), Red-bellied Woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus), Downy Woodpecker (Dryobates pubescens), Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus), Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus), American Robin (Turdus migratorius), Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura), Dark-eyed Junco (Junco hyemalis), Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris).

A few are seasonal: the Indigo Bunting and Ruby-throated Hummingbird are summer birds, and the Dark-eyed Junco visits from about October to April. There is no chickadee on purpose: the Black-capped Chickadee lives in northern Missouri, Kansas City and Columbia included, and the Carolina Chickadee in the south, St. Louis and Springfield included, so neither one fits a statewide chart.

Before printing, we checked every species against eBird records county by county across Missouri and All About Birds range maps. The illustrations are stylized, so for a tricky bird keep a field guide or the Merlin app handy.
