Owls of North America Poster Print, Identification Chart with Latin Names, Wall Art

Owls of North America gathers twelve owls of forest, field and tundra on one sheet, in the style of a vintage field guide: each owl faces forward on a branch, drawn in the same flat style, with its common name and its scientific name in italics. It is a gift for a birder, a night walker or a kid who loves owls.

THE 12 OWLS
Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus), Barred Owl (Strix varia), American Barn Owl (Tyto furcata), Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus), Eastern Screech-Owl (Megascops asio), Western Screech-Owl (Megascops kennicottii), Great Gray Owl (Strix nebulosa), Northern Saw-whet Owl (Aegolius acadicus), Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia), Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus), Long-eared Owl (Asio otus), Northern Pygmy-Owl (Glaucidium gnoma).

Sizes are drawn on a compressed scale so all twelve fit one sheet: the tiny Northern Pygmy-Owl is drawn larger, and the Great Gray and Great Horned Owls smaller, than true scale. Plumage is simplified to flat color with bars, streaks or spots, one look per species: the Eastern Screech-Owl is shown in its rufous form, though gray birds also occur, and the Snowy Owl as the nearly white adult male.

Names follow the American Ornithological Society checklist, including the American Barn Owl (Tyto furcata), split from the Barn Owl in 2024.
