Hummingbirds of North America Poster Print, Identification Chart with Latin Names, Wall Art

Hummingbirds of North America is a field-guide style chart of twelve hummingbird species that nest in the United States, laid out like a vintage field guide: each bird perched on a twig and drawn in a matching style, with its common name and its scientific name in italics. It is a gift for anyone with a feeder by the window.

The birds shown are adult males, so their throat colors can be compared side by side; females and young birds of most species are much plainer. The throats are drawn as flat color, while in life they can look black until the light strikes them.

THE 12 HUMMINGBIRDS
Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris), Black-chinned Hummingbird (Archilochus alexandri), Anna's Hummingbird (Calypte anna), Costa's Hummingbird (Calypte costae), Rufous Hummingbird (Selasphorus rufus), Broad-tailed Hummingbird (Selasphorus platycercus), Allen's Hummingbird (Selasphorus sasin), Calliope Hummingbird (Selasphorus calliope), Broad-billed Hummingbird (Cynanthus latirostris), Rivoli's Hummingbird (Eugenes fulgens), Blue-throated Mountain-gem (Lampornis clemenciae), Buff-bellied Hummingbird (Amazilia yucatanensis).

The Ruby-throated is the only hummingbird that nests regularly in the East, and the Calliope is the smallest bird in the United States. The Broad-billed, Rivoli's and Buff-bellied Hummingbirds and the Blue-throated Mountain-gem nest in the US only in the Southwest borderlands or South Texas. Names follow the American Ornithological Society checklist: the Rivoli's Hummingbird was split from the Magnificent Hummingbird in 2017, and the Blue-throated Mountain-gem was formerly called the Blue-throated Hummingbird.
