Backyard Birds of Minnesota Poster Print, Identification Chart with Latin Names, Wall Art

Backyard Birds of Minnesota is a chart of 16 birds you can see from a kitchen window in Minnesota, laid out like a vintage field guide: each bird drawn in a matching style, with its common name and its scientific name in italics.

THE 16 BIRDS
Black-capped Chickadee (Poecile atricapillus), Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata), American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis), Downy Woodpecker (Dryobates pubescens), Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus), American Robin (Turdus migratorius), White-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta carolinensis), Rose-breasted Grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus), Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura), Baltimore Oriole (Icterus galbula), Hairy Woodpecker (Dryobates villosus), Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialis), Dark-eyed Junco (Junco hyemalis), Song Sparrow (Melospiza melodia), Gray Catbird (Dumetella carolinensis), Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris).

Minnesota feeders change with the seasons: the Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Baltimore Oriole, Eastern Bluebird, Song Sparrow, Gray Catbird and Ruby-throated Hummingbird are summer birds. The Northern Flicker stays the winter only in the southern half, and the Dark-eyed Junco is a winter visitor that nests in the far north. The Northern Cardinal is left off on purpose: it is rare in the forested north-central and northeast.

Before printing, we checked every species against the Minnesota Breeding Bird Atlas and Project FeederWatch counts for Minnesota. The illustrations are stylized, so for a tricky bird keep a field guide or the Merlin app handy.
