Backyard Birds of Nebraska Poster Print, Identification Chart with Latin Names, Wall Art

Backyard Birds of Nebraska is a chart of 16 birds you can see from a kitchen window in Nebraska, laid out like a vintage field guide: each bird drawn in a matching style, with its common name and its scientific name in italics. It includes the Nebraska state bird, the Western Meadowlark.

THE 16 BIRDS
Western Meadowlark (Sturnella neglecta), Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis), Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata), Black-capped Chickadee (Poecile atricapillus), White-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta carolinensis), Downy Woodpecker (Dryobates pubescens), Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus), American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis), House Finch (Haemorhous mexicanus), American Robin (Turdus migratorius), Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura), Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus), Dark-eyed Junco (Junco hyemalis), Northern House Wren (Troglodytes aedon), Chipping Sparrow (Spizella passerina), Baltimore Oriole (Icterus galbula).

A few are seasonal: the Northern House Wren, Chipping Sparrow and Baltimore Oriole are summer birds, and the Dark-eyed Junco comes for the winter. The Western Meadowlark, the state bird, sings from fence posts at the edge of town.

Before printing, we checked every species against eBird records county by county across Nebraska and All About Birds range maps. The illustrations are stylized, so for a tricky bird keep a field guide or the Merlin app handy.
