Platinum, diamond, and emerald calibre and oval cabochon ring, NSEW, glowy and beautiful! Art Deco, size 7

Whoever said it wasn't easy being green never met this Art Deco beauty! The setting came to me empty, but I had it set with this lovely natural emerald cabochon of almost three carats (2.63, to be precise). The ring is platinum, hallmarked, and adorned with 22 single cut diamonds with an estimated total carat weight of .33, and with 16 calibre cut emeralds estimated to weigh .32 carats. It has lovely delicate engraving on its shoulders, and is in excellent vintage condition. The design is classical Art Deco through and through, but I suspect it may be an homage to the Deco style rather than an original.

The emerald is oiled but has no other treatments. Oiling is a centuries old tradition in the emerald trade, and is not commonly counted against the beauty of a stone. It measures 8mm by 11mm by 4mm, and has a good amount of "jardin," as the trade calls it: it's a poetic term for the inclusions which typically give emeralds their luminous, translucent (as opposed to transparent) appeal. These are generally not distracting at a normal viewing distance: there is one inclusion by a prong that is more prominent than the others (please see pictures), but on the whole, it's that glowing green hue which makes the main impression ... and you can always position the ring on your finger to appreciate the aspect(s) that you most admire!
