Middleman I

These heads are the first in a series of cast concrete figures I refer to as 'Middlemen.' They represent those people who exist between the producer and the consumer and exact a large percentage of the benefits of production. The image of the grouping of these heads that are on my shop page was selected for ArtPop in Charlotte, NC. The image appeared on billboards and news racks in Charlotte throughout 2017. The video I posted illustrates a bit of that experience.

The cast concrete sculptures represented here, 'Middleman I,' are sold seperately (1 individual bust) and come in a choice of natural concrete or a black patina. Both versions are coated with a concrete sealer when completed. As these are hand crafted and tinted, the color and texture will vary slightly from what is pictured. They are 7.5" tall and 8.5" x 8.5" at the base and weigh about 16 lbs each.

They are great for both indoor and outdoor locations.

I begin these forms by creating the original sculpture out of a non-drying, oil-based clay. I then make a rubber mold and a plaster mother mold (designed to hold the rubber mold in place when the original form is removed). Finally, I complete the project by casting the form in concrete and staining the surface in order to enhance the texture.
