Appliqué is a technique where decorative ("cut-out") fabric is sewn right on top of another solid piece of fabric. I first bond the two pieces of fabric together using an iron-on adhesive and then I do a decorative satin or zig-zag stitch around the cut-out piece of fabric. With normal wear and tear, some threads from the cut-out fabric may begin poking out beyond the zig-zag stitch. This is completely normal and to be expected! Please know that the zig-zag stitch will prevent any major unraveling to occur. To get rid of any "fringes" that occur when threads stick out beyond the zig-zag, simply trim the thread(s) that are sticking out... BUT... be careful not to accidentally cut the zig-zag!
