This is a beautiful sky overlay, perfect for adding to a distant sky of an outdoor portrait image such as the one shown in my example.

Often to get the correct exposure on our subject we end up with blown out skies or perhaps on the day the sky is just clear and blue when we were hoping for clouds and colours to give our image that bit of wow. Now you can simply add a sky overlay and take your portrait from meh to wow.

How to use it?

With the sample image shown it took me about 2 mins to add the sky without any difficult selective masking. Firstly I had my portrait image on the bottom layer, I added a blank layer then my sky layer.

I resized the sky so that the blurred area lined up with my horizon and chose the multiply blend mode.

Then I held down my option key and clicked on a peachy orange colour out of the sky to set this as my foreground colour. Next I went to my empty layer (between the portrait and sky layers) and clicked 'fill' with 'foreground colour' - changed the blending mode to colour and dropped the opacity to about 20%.

Now I went back to the sky layer, added a mask and having my brush opacity on about 16% (this will change depending the effect you'd like) I brushed some of the sky layer off of my subjects and a bit off of the foreground. I just played around for a few seconds until I got the finished result I was looking for, I wanted it to look like the sunset was bathing my subjects and the foreground but it wasn't too heavy.

Then I flattened my layers and voila amazing sky added :)
