Rings made of semi-refractory clay with raku technique. Crystalline colors and oxides in reduction
Blue ring dimensions: diameter of about 3 cm
White ring dimensions: 4 x 2 cm
Green ring size: 3.5 x 2
Flower ring dimensions: diameter cm. 2.5
The ceramic part is positioned on a ring in hypoallergenic material adjustable in width
To maintain the brilliance of the colours, it is advisable to wax the object two/three times a year.
Do not spray sprays of any kind, perfume or hairspray directly on the object.
Briefly, the procedure for making ceramics using the "raku" technique is as follows: the object is shaped by hand or with a lathe. The dough material must be refractory, i.e. resistant to sudden changes in temperature. While the first firing is done in the traditional way, the second is done in special kilns, from which, once the melting temperature of the glazes is reached (900°), the "biscuit" is extracted with special tongs and left to cool in containers, hermetically sealed, containing dry leaves, grass, sawdust or paper. The pieces, still incandescent, cause the materials contained in the container to burn, forming a reducing atmosphere inside it, which contributes to producing a series of characteristic effects on the surface of the glazes and on the clay; during this phase the crackle effect of the enamel is created. To obtain the formation of lustre and reflections, a chemical reaction of the metal oxides present in the glazes and clay is first created, then, by immersing the piece in water, the effect obtained is consolidated. All these operations must be carried out extremely quickly and allow, giving free rein to the imagination and creativity, to practice innumerable variations to the indicated procedure, obtaining increasingly different and particular effects.
