WESTERING WOMEN. Historical Quilt Pattern Block of the Month Sampler. 12 traditional blocks (12") American History theme. Each block named for a site on the Western trails.

Barbara Brackman has created a sampler of 12 traditional blocks celebrating America's overland trails and the women who walked west. Westering Women offers 12" pieced patterns, each chosen for a name that recalls a location along the old Oregon/California and Santa Fe Trails. Get an accurate view of the history of western migration through the eyes of the women who kept diaries and wrote letters 170 years ago.

PDF pattern package contains 15 pages: patterns for the 12" blocks with rotary cutting & templates as needed, plus an introduction, and two setting suggestions.

The pattern is perfect for beginners. It contains one applique stem & a few Y-seams to turn beginners into skilled stitchers. Older children interested in learning how to sew patchwork could do this with supervision. The stories are adult reading level but appropriate to read to younger kids who will enjoy them.

You can now buy the patterns as a PDF. Some quilters prefer paper patterns, so I am offering the series in two formats with different pricing:

1) Buy the complete pattern package in PDF form, which you print yourself in color or black and white in this listing. $15

2) I will print these out in black & white and mail them to you. You pay an additional fee for the printing and U.S. postage in a one-time package. $22.50
See this listing to buy the paper patterns.

The series appeared in 2016 as a BOM sampler on my CivilWarQuilts blog. I'll keep the true history stories up on my blog. Each pattern sheet gives you a link to that extended history of people and places. The blog also shows you many quilts completed by readers who sewed along in 2014. See the photos here for quilts by Denniele Bohannon, Barbara Shaffer. JJJan and Dena the Pink Deenster.
