All jewelry on this site is nickel-free aside from white gold items. All pieces that involve constant, direct skin contact (earring posts and rings) are made of silver or nickel-free gold. Many people do not develop a reaction to the loose contact of necklaces and bangles made of white gold alloyed with nickel, but if your skin is sensitive then silver or nickel-free gold are the safest options.

Some good things to know about how to best take care of your jewelry:

• Remove jewelry before washing your hands, showering, washing dishes, and going into the pool or ocean
• Put your jewelry on AFTER applying lotion, perfume, hairspray, and any other hair and body products

Silver and brass tarnish over time- don't worry, this is totally normal! Tarnish is the darkening or discoloration on the surface of the metal over time. Also known as patina, it is a natural occurrence in these metals. This darkening of the metal can enhance the beauty of the piece, but if you don't dig it there are a few easy ways to clean your jewelry:

• buff the piece gently with a polishing cloth OR
• soak the piece in warm soapy water and brush gently with an old soft toothbrush, rinse, and dry thoroughly

Silver and brass darken over time, and although gold does not tarnish, its surface can dull and scratch over time.

For a shiny polish you can use a polishing cloth or take the jewelry to your local jeweler for professional polishing. DO NOT use silver cleaning solutions or liquids on pre-oxidized (darkened) jewelry! The square cutout earrings and Woodlark jewelry series have intentional pre-oxidized finishes that will come off with polishing and cleaning solutions.

Nickel is the most common metal people are allergic to. In very rare cases people are sensitive to silver. Allergies to gold are even more rare, but it can occur.

Some people have sensitivity to brass, which can temporarily discolor the skin. Therefore, all pieces that involve constant, direct skin contact (earring posts and rings) are all made of silver or nickel-free gold.
