► BAKELITE
Bakelite was created in 1909 by Belgian-American chemist Léo Baekeland.
This resin is considered an ancestor of modern plastics.
It was used to make the casings of radios and telephones, as well as various kitchen utensils, jewelry and toys.
It is a hard material without any elasticity and much heavier than modern plastic.
Its surface is slightly rough and it is very difficult to obtain perfect finishes, since it is a very difficult material to work and polish.
Its original color is black, brown or dark red.
White bakelite does not exist; the bakelite sockets were painted white and then varnished.
Bakelite sockets are very popular because of their vintage look.
