This vintage pattern-making system, "Graziosa", from Winter 1957, is available as a digital download. It features 20 different outfits for you to admire…. AND for you to draft as patterns to sew at home!

Accompanying the gorgeous colour illustrations are instructions and schematic diagrams that let you draft the pattern pieces to the following measurements: 39" bust, 29" waist, 39.5" hip.

The outfits are mostly dresses: elegant draped cocktail dresses, fun sporty day dresses, and fabulous full-skirted evening dresses! (There's a few coats illustrated in the booklet as suggestions to wear over the dresses – but please note these are NOT included in the pattern pieces for drafting, just the dresses/main outfit on each page.)

• my instructions in English on how to make your pattern pieces (in addition to the original brief Italian instructions)

3. Technical pattern diagrams for drafting 20 outfits (20 pages)

✂️ How the pattern system works:

The drafting system works by you drawing a large template grid of squares. Then you copy the little grid diagrams given using your larger template grid as your guide: this scales up the pattern pieces to a larger size. (One customer has also told me that a “Frohne Modelle” system enlarging tool also works to scale up the diagrams. Other customers have used the small pattern diagrams to make clothes for dolls!)

It's a fun idea, but I recommend you will need to be a fairly advanced sewist and comfortable tweaking your own pattern to achieve a good fit. Almost no information is given on how to put your fabric pieces together, how many of each piece to be cut, etc. It is assumed that you are confident at knowing how to put a creation together with no coaching on technique, whether to line/interface bits, etc. I'd recommend you make a mock-up out of muslin/inexpensive fabric before committing to that sumptuous silk you have in your stash!
