For each coaster, the design is hand stenciled onto the tile and is treated with 3 coats of waterproof, dishwasher safe sealant on the top...so it is plenty hardy for use as a coaster and any other decor uses! The stone coasters are treated with commercial grade paver sealant on both front and back to preserve the beauty of the stone and image.

For the hand painted coasters I am now also offering an absorptive natural travertine stone option. This is done by sealing the stone with a paver sealant to keep the stone in lasting shape, then to stencil and paint it once the sealant is dried. The painted stone is then heated in an oven to set the paint permanently. After they have cooled the waterproof/dishwasher safe sealant is applied only to the painted surfaces. The stone will absorb the liquid that gathers due to humidity or small spills.

Any uneven pitting natural to the stone is evened out as much as possible with a clear hard resin. However, please know that the pitting in the stone is inherent to what makes it so unique and beautiful! There isn't much I can do to avoid some irregularities. But it always looks really nice! If I tossed out all tiles with some natural pitting... I could not offer this as I would loose money! :) The stone coasters are treated with commercial grade paver sealant on both front and back to preserve the beauty of the stone and image.
