This is a print of my original watercolor painting created as part of the James Webb Space Telescope Artist Project for NASA Goddard. On 11/2/2016, I was able to visit the JWST in person as part of a group of 23 artists selected for this special opportunity. The original painting featured in this print will be displayed in Spring 2017 at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.

"This piece explores some of the metaphors used to describe and explain the James Webb Space Telescope. The black eyed susan, describing the shape and colors of the gold-plated primary mirror segments surrounding the dark central aft optics subsystem. The beehive, for the hexagonal pattern of the mirror segments. And the butterfly in its chrysalis, representing how the JWST will fold up for its journey into space. These symbols from the natural world also show the possible connection between the work of the JWST and understanding of the origins of life. The central iconic, graphic interpretation of the JWST and the use of gold leaf in this painting and the companion piece Icon: Gaze may also be seen as an allusion to the traditions of religious artwork, emphasizing the profound implications of this endeavor."

Edited review: The damage of the edges of the print was insignificant enough to never be noticed once framed. The seller offered to resend a new one, which is above and beyond and very much appreciated, but I declined, since it just wasn't necessary. BEAUTIFUL artwork, quality paper, and very excellent customer service. I can't wait to give this to my NASA-enthusiast friend! Original review: I would not recommend sending this in a tube. Put it in between some stiff cardboard in an envelope. The lid was pushed into the tube and there were dents on the tube that caused bending of the print. That aside, it's a beautiful piece!
