This beautiful and unique maple bowl was turned from a troublesome red maple tree in our backyard. It proudly draped over our deck for years like a wooden praying mantis. Our aborist remarked how it was "one gnarly looking tree." So, naturally I couldn't wait to see what surprises lay inside.

Here is the first of many bowls from this tree. I especially like the almost stormy sky-like grains in the center of the bowl. Truly unique.

Size is 2.5" deep, 3.0" high, 8.5" diameter, and weighs around 1 1/4 pound. What amazes me is the similar, yet different color patterns throughout. There is no stain at all on this wood, just a fully-cured, crystal clear, polyurethane finish. While not food-safe, it has many decorative uses - candy dish, key bowl, business card bowl, potpourri... anything you want to artfully contain.

Notice in the last photo there is a universally loved American confection placed there for scale. (Candy included.)
