From the recently published Leopold Segedin: A Habit of Art (also available on Etsy):
"...there are four different sources of light in this painting. There is a light from a window. A warm light. There is a florescent light from the stores down there. There is the light from the sky and there’s a light from the platform. And it all works together in my mind."
"...at that time they were tearing down Fifth Avenue, Harrison (in Chicago), they were building at that time it was called the Congress Street Expressway, now it’s the Eisenhower. And so I was taking the el downtown looking out the window. Somewhere around Ashland, these were the buildings I saw. And I remember I made some sketches of the buildings I saw, but now on the spot, from memory. And those are what I stuck in there. So those are memories of buildings from Fifth Avenue, when there was a Fifth Avenue."
