This listing is for a PRINT ON PAPER of my painting "Malolo Airlines".
Dimensions: 11"x 17"
The original painting was done in acrylics, by me, the artist RARABIRD. This is a paper REPRODUCTION.
This PAPER PRINT will be shipped flat, in a clear plastic sleeve, on a backing board, inside a padded envelope.
I painted this for the 2020 Christmas Tiki Art Show for Creative Framing and Gallery n Oakland, CA.
Depicted is a flying fish (“Mālolo” in Hawaiian), which is also an airline service for Tiki Gods. It is an imaginative mash-up of what a real flying fish looks like, which you would typically see in the South Pacific. This fish is reimagined as a vintage island-hopper propeller plane. It is in the retro-style of a 1940’s travel poster.
Flying the “plane” is Captain Bob, a pilot and a famous Tiki mug from the historical Tiki Bob’s Tiki Restaurant in San Francisco (now converted to something else). The passengers inside the windows are the four main Hawaiian AKUA Gods: Ku, Kane, Kanaloa and Lono. In the final seat is a Rapa Nui (Easter Island) Moai, listening contentedly to his headphones.
The quote “Fly The Finly Skies” is a spoof on the old United Airlines advertisement “Fly The Friendly Skies”.
The fish plane is flying over the Hawaiian Islands.
The ID number on the plane says HI 5-O (Hawaii Five-O, after the TV program from the 1960’s).
My signature is painted below the Big Island of Hawaii on the far bottom right.
