I was never one of those little kids who dove under the blankets at the first roll of thunder. On the contrary, some of my fondest childhood memories are of running to the window to catch those first brilliant bolts of lightning; I would have darted outside to stand in the rain if my mom had let me!

To this day, I still look forward to a really good summer thunderstorm (and I grew up in Minnesota, so we usually get a couple serious ones). There's something about that smell of rain hanging in the air, the heaviness of the atmosphere, and the way the hair on your arms rises as it gets closer. I will never tire of it. How many thousands of years have we watched thunderstorms, and with all our modern technology, we still can't control, direct, or even truly predict what they're going to do. They are all natural and completely beyond our grasp. I hope you get a sense of this when you look at this piece.

8 x 10 on a cotton canvas board. The metallic paint gives the lightning a bit of a glow. Comes unframed and signed on back.
