Note: This listing has a special place in my heart. I got to create this for my church to use as a Backyard Bible Club. I'm convinced the most important thing you can give kids, over and over again is the Gospel, because THAT has the power to save. Don't feel like this has to be limited to a VBS program, this can be used as ANY kids club, Wednesday night kids programming, or even at home with your own kids.

Gospel in the Garden is a theologically rich four day curriculum that utilizes some of the best resources available in effort to present kids and families with a VBS or Backyard Bible Club that seeks to shout one thing over and over: The Gospel.

Created specifically for a Backyard Bible Club at a church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Gospel in the Garden encourages kids to explore Creation using their five senses in various stations as they seek to understand the Gospel. The kids will sit in on brief hands-on science lessons, spend time in the Creation Station working on projects that allow them to explore through creativity, participate in activities at the PlayStation that allow them to explore through play, and sit down at Unpack and Snack while they unpack the Word of God and eat some food that relates specifically to the main points of the day.

Gospel in the Garden recommends utilizing Sally Lloyd Jones’ The Jesus Storybook Bible, and Lantern Music by Andy Johnson. These are quality resources that excel at their individual purposes, and when combined with this curriculum produce a multi-faceted look at the truths of Scripture and the Gospel.

Taking place in a garden setting children will be welcomed into the perfect, beautiful garden, on day one they will revel in God’s glorious creation before the fall, and even hear a little apologetics teaching as they observe creation as it points to it’s Creator. On the second day there is bad news in the garden, the kids will walk through the dirt, the sin, the problem. On the third day in the garden there is great news! The water, the solution, the change focuses on the cleansing water of Jesus’ death as a sacrifice for our sin and the change that happens when one answers the call of the Gospel to repent and believe. On the last day in the garden kids will learn about sanctification and the call. As the frog life cycle is examined it will show how similarly God works sanctification in the life of a believer. They will also learn about the call to share the Gospel by taking people through the garden, starting in the perfection, walking through the dirt, the sin, the problem, and to the water, the good news of the washing through the death and resurrection of Christ, and the butterfly transformation of a heart, and lastly the frog type sanctification that occurs bit by bit in the life of a believer.

Being a home-grown curriculum Gospel in the Garden has the advantage of being unique and cost effective. Usually there are several popular VBS curriculums on the market which results in many churches doing the same ones, and being that they are well marketed they can be quite pricey. Also, when you go with the main stream you also tend toward a more broad, watered down teaching that will lend itself to many theological leanings. Gospel in the Garden is created out of a love for the Word, and being faithful to proclaim the true Gospel.
