A magnificent vintage Czech Parrot brooch. She has a blazing green peridot crest, a glistening coal black chaton beak, eye and legs. Nine rows of brilliant crystal chaton's form her body with a row of sparkling gray chaton's outlining her wing. This rhinestone bird is a definite statement piece, one to surely draw attention!!! Handmade with prong set stones. This piece has fluid strands of green chaton "tail feathers" that will swing with movement. The back was rhodium plated and has some ageing. Such exquisite detail. A magnificent statement piece which will surely draw the eye. This beauty looks like she belongs in the Amazon rain forest. Stunning detail, intense colors and a stunning piece. No dead or dull stones.....Measures 5.25 by 3 inches and is not signed.

For centuries, the foundries of old Czechoslovakia have been renowned for their impressive crystal, glass and jewelry craftsmanship. This crystal brooch comes directly from Jablonec, Czechoslovakia which was formerly called Gablonze before WWII. (Many of the Jewelry houses closed during the war.)

From 1925-1950s, Czech jewelry was heavily soldered, typically with copper or pot metal (a mixture of semi-precious metals). Often these pieces display maker’s marks indicating the district name of the jewelry company. Sometimes the word “Czech’ will appear on the back as well.

When they were made in the 1920s to the 1950s, film stars had first begun to set popular taste and their luxurious jewels were duplicated best of all by the Czechs. The nation was Bohemia prior to World War I, remember, and they had centuries of expertise in creating and setting the finest crystal gems.

The dots of solder on the reverses aren't actually repairs, but preventive strengthening measures undertaken to prevent potential damage. In 1918 the Czechs and Slovaks united. They were finally freed from the rule of Austria and Hungary. The land in which they live became the Czech Republic on January 1st, 1993. Prior to WW I, the jewelry from this area was called Bohemian and often not marked. After WW I, the jewelry was marked with Czecho, Czecho-slovakia, Czechoslovakia, Czech or Made in Czechoslovakia.
