Another mushroom picture, this one a little bigger than the ones I normally do. These stunning mushrooms are called Mycena acicula and in real life almost radiate their sunset colours. I just can't resist recreating these beauties with thread! I ecodye the background fabric , this time with cotinus (smoke bush) and red onion skins, and many of the threads have also been naturally dyed (though not by me!).

These little mushroom pictures started as a way to use up my ecodyed stash. While doing large commissions taking up to a month to complete, I also enjoy the natural dyeing process and had built up a large collection of fabulous fabrics! In this picture the background cotton is dyed with black turtle beans, the foreground is scrim dyed with red onion skins. I use alum as a pre-mordant ensuring pretty good light fastness.

Picture is unframed, and will arrive in cello cover, mounted and ready to pop into a frame.

Picture is approximately 9cm x 13cm, and is securely mounted on just off-white mount board, size 200mmx200mm, or 8"x8". Will fit into standard frame, and is best framed in a box (memory) frame to prevent it being squashed against the glass. Please don't put it in direct sunlight as the sun will fade the colours.
