Pretty bright red pottery poppy flower, threaded with a red ribbon to hang on the wall on placed on a surface. The design is waterproof and frost proof, so it can be safely displayed indoors or outside, or used as a commemorative gift.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT: As part of the commemorative events in the United kingdom, to remember all those who lost their lives in the first world war, Zoo Ceramics have been commissioned to create a number of large scale war memorials. Then several of our galleries and shops requested that we design some smaller items in the poppy range. This little poppy forms part of that range and although many are sold just because people love poppies, it is really touching when someone tells us that their poppy is going to be placed on a war grave of a beloved relative. A percentage of the profits for the sale of our poppies goes to help the Lincoln Cathedral Fabric Fund.
SIZE: 7 - 7.5 cm diameter by 2.5 cm deep.
COLOUR: Bright red stoneware glaze with blue and black stain details.
MATERIALS: Stoneware fired ceramic to 1260 degrees.
RANGE: There are many poppy designs in this collection, small poppy hanging or magnet, poppy wall plaque, poppy dish, poppy clock and hares with poppies.
PLEASE NOTE: The listing is for one poppy hanger that is shown in the first five images. We make lots of these little poppies, so the item you receive will be very similar, but not necessarily the one shown. Due to the hand-made nature of the pieces there may be slight variations in size, pattern and colour, but be reassured that we only send out the finest examples. This design is also available with a magnet on the reverse and can be purchased from a separate listing.
METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION: Petals are slab rolled and modelled in to a flower pattern and then connected to a central base. The finished flowers are then left for a week to dry out fully before being fired in an electric kiln for a bisque firing at 1000°C. It will take another 24 hours for the kiln to cool down so that all the work can be emptied out and glazed. We make all our own stoneware glazes, (except for our very expensive cadmium based red glaze) which are dipped, poured, painted and sprayed on to our designs. Once glazed all the work goes back into the kiln for a second firing of up to 1260°C. This firing will fix the glaze permanently in to place and also make the piece frost proof and water resistant. From start to finish even a small design like this light pull can take about 2 weeks to create; whilst larger pieces can take over a month to complete.
PACKAGING: Small parcels are gift wrapped and have attached a gift label and larger edition pieces are numbered and signed by the artist and come with a signed certificate. We email you when item has been dispatched and provide tracking references if you have opted for this service and always obtain a proof of posting receipt.
