Large (18"x24") signed original work by California landscape artist and sign painter, Irion Shields. His generous use of rich colors and skilled paint handling give this work an inner glow that draws one into the beautiful mountain scene. The trembling sound of aspen and the high pitched call of the chickadees can almost be heard. Stand close enough and one can almost catch the scent of pine and crisp mountain breeze rushing over the alpine lake and along the warm sandy trail...
Signed front and reverse--inscription on reverse reads "The Water Trail, by Irion Shields '58"

Mr Shields spent over 40 years working as a sign painter in Sacramento Ca at the McClellan Air Force Base. He loved the mountains and spent much of his free time in the Sierra Nevada mountains and in the Napa Valley region painting and sketching from Nature. Only a dozen or so of his works have been sold at auction houses including Bonhams and Butterfields and have increased significantly in value over the past decade as the California Landscape paintings have become more and more popular internationally.
Irion was born in Texas in 1895 and lived until 1983.
