NICU Giraffe Incubator Covers in fleece baby prints for premature infants

As a nurse for 31 years in 12 different NICUs, I spent countless hours sewing NICU bedding, Giraffe incubator covers and other types of incubator covers for the hospital's smallest patients. Not only are these covers appealing to the eye providing a 'soft touch' to the high tech environment of the NICU, they serve a much greater purpose for the babies inside the incubator. They block outside noise and simulate the darker womb-like environment, protecting preemies still developing sight and hearing.

My Giraffe covers are 56" wide and 48" long and attach to the two knobs on the top of Giraffe incubator. This secures the cover when the top of the Giraffe is opened. The covers are made of anti-pill fleece because fleece maintains its color and shape through multiple home launderings and it is wrinkle free. Double thickness fleece also blocks more noise, making the inside of the incubator a quieter place. All covers of this design have a 22 inch opening on both sides which makes it easy to access the incubator portholes. NICU nurses love them for this reason and because they don't slip off the incubator.

Your cover arrives pre-washed and ready to use upon arrival. (Note to buyers: The high temperature of hospital laundry dryers is hard on fleece, causing it to shrink and pill; therefore, I recommend you launder the cover at home, if necessary, during your stay in the NICU.) When your cover is no longer needed by your baby, it can be repurposed into a cute toddler lap blanket or you might donate your cover to the NICU to be used by others.

I place a fleece nursery print on the outside of the cover and match a solid color fleece to the print for the inside. I am happy to text you photos of any covers listed below, but not shown in the pictures up above. Please specify in the order notes which one you would like to buy. Since all Jo-Ann Fabric stores have closed in the USA, I am no longer able to take custom orders.
