WHAT IS GICLÈE PRINTING?
The term giclée describes the way printers deposit ink; but giclée printing is the term for the finest quality archival printing preferred by photographers and artists. This is due to the way the images are processed, and the high quality of the inks used, which are archival-grade and will not yellow or fade over time. A giclée print is almost indistinguishable from the original artwork!
A NOTE FROM THE ARTIST:
I always paint from life using gouache or watercolors directly onto the paper without drawing first, and slowly build layer upon layer until the subject looks both realistic and three-dimensional, as if it’s sitting on the paper ready to pick up. Although they look “real,” I like it that if you look closely, you can tell that it bears the marks of the tools which made it, the paint and brush. I think of these as portraits rather than still lives; the piece of fruit or vegetable has been selected for its beauty and deserves to be portrayed as the individual it is, full of its own distinct personality. I love the way the watercolor texture is highlighted in this print.
