-Blanks(no distillery stamp, other small stamps/markings possible)
-Random(secondary bourbon brand with stamp, heads with small stamps, rye whiskey OR unclear/blurry major brand stamp like Beam, Jack Daniels)
-bad stamp Jack Daniels, raw head in good shape but stamp is blurry/incomplete/nearly nonexistent
-Box of scrap (pic 10) 10 lbs of barrel head scrap. Various sized pieces. Not from the same head. Will not make a whole head. Good for piece work, grilling wood, etc.
Heads are tongue and groove or dowel rodso they will need reinforced or glued to be properly used. They are not always flat because of the liquid they absorb on the barrel, but can be flattened with your reinforcement method if necessary for your project. Heads are picked first off the stack, stamps and color will vary.
Though all heads need some reinforcing, the “very rough” option is a head that is in pieces and/or warped and will need a lot extra work to put back together(picture 9). Imperfections like cracks and gouges in wood are also possible along with stamps being illegible. These are best for piece work and the people who don’t need flatter, tight heads. They are shipped in a box loosely and will arrive in pieces. Stamps will vary for the stamped option or there is a blank option.
Please understand these are raw heads and are not ready for use when they arrive, they will likely come apart in shipping and have to be put together. They are charred on the back and they are dirty! (picture 8)
If you would like a finished head thats ready for use please order one of the finished options. Small slits between the heads slats are to be expected with these authentic barrel heads. Though these heads are ready to use, they are not always perfectly flat, the flattest heads are used for lazy susans and serving trays. Blank w/o clear coat heads are perfect for guest books, paintings, wood burning, etc. All finished heads are reinforced to the highest quality with a sturdy backer board to insure a lifelong use!
Heads are about 1” thick and 21” in diameter. Raw heads weigh about 10-12 pounds, Finished, 15 lbs.
