~Three In A Tree~
I was about to open my front door and go inside as it would be dark, when I heard a tweety, high-pitched voice from the top of the Pine tree next to my house. At first I didn’t believe the sound that followed. I listened ,waiting to hear it again to see if it belonged to who I thought it did. Sure enough, it wasn’t long after the first “Who” that I heard it again. This voice was clearly different from the first voice; the squeaky voice. A few minutes passed before I heard the squeaky voice shout excitedly, “I did it, I did it! Look mama what I can do!”
Still looking up towards the top of the tree where the voices were coming from, but seeing nobody, I decided to go inside. If it was owls, as I’d hoped it was, I should be hearing them during the night. It's been quite awhile since we've had owls at The Bunny Garden. And I did hear them! The next morning I was so excited to meet them! I woke-up extra=early and went out to the tree.. It had been quite awhile since we've had owls at the bunny garden. I heard the squeaky little voice again. It said, “Hi! Look what I can do!” I kept looking, trying to see it.
A tiny, dissheveled little puff of white fuzz hopped out towards the middle of the branch.followed by a teeny, tiny brown mouse scurrying along as fast as she could go. She
came to a sudden halt behind the baby owl and in an even higher-pitched voice, squeaked something to the owl. Then I heard the deeper, louder, “Whoo, Whoo” that I’d heard the night before. Suddenly both babies started giggling. “Mama's funny! She makes us laugh! She wants us to come back in where we can’t be seen. I told her I wanted to show you my trick! “
Then she said, “Can you see me well? Watch my face!” With that, she slowly closed one eye and stood as if in a trance; one eye open, one eye closed. The little mouse looked on in complete silence and admiration. After a few min. Mama owl gave a loud hoot and the baby opened her eye. Behind the hoot came Mama. She looked at me, then hopped over to her babies- They’re sisters, baby mouse and baby ow! Mama said something to the little mouse and she scurried back under the tree branches which left Wink, the baby owl, and Mama. Wink explained quickly that Mama didn’t like baby Marcella to follow her when they’re up high in the tree because she she can’t fly and might fall off. Mama held up a beautiful knit bag with a strap that fits over her shoulder and under her wing. She explained that she carries her bag so she can carry Marcella places where the little mouse can't fly, such as the top of the Pine tree. She'll be able to have Marcella close by and know that the little mouse is safe . Then she told me the story of how she found Marcella when she was less than a week old; a most amazing story, Unfortunately I've run out of room-
I’ve hand-knit Mama Owl using three different yarns. The heathered brown of her back wings and head is a soft mohair-blend yarn. Her tummy and face are knit from a cream-colored acrylic yarn that has a very slight thread of sparkle in it. Because she’s a night-bird the tiny glitter-like sparks suggest stars~ her feet are also knit from an acrylic yarn, as is her bag. I’ve given her button eyes and hand embroidered her beak, then added a little blush to define her cheeks- and her personality. Mama Owl cannot stand or sit by herself. She needs to have something behind her to prop her up and then she does quite well. From a seated position she measures approximately 9”tall- and approximately 9 1/2”tall from a standing position. She comes with a colorful hand knit bag that may be slipped on or off of her wing.
Baby Wink is hand knit from a fine, mohair yarn that is part angora. She too has button eyes and I’ve embroidered her beak with a synthetic yarn. Her barely visible feet are crocheted from the same yarn as used in making her beak.
And last-but not least, is baby Marcella Mouse! Marcella’s body , not including her tail measures approximately 3 1/4” long. She is hand knit with a very soft yarn that is a combination of polyester, wool, and Angora. Marcella’s ears, tail, and feet are crocheted from a wool-blend yarn. Marcella’s eyes are small glass beads sewn from one eye, through her head, to the other eye- and back again several times. Marcella wears a tiny blue bow at the end of her tail. All three animals are stuffed with polyfil.
***Please note that these animals make adorable room decor for a baby or little girl’s room as well as that they are wonderful additions to someone’s collection. They are not, however, meant to be children’s play toys. They are NOT safe for young children or babies to handle because even though well- attached, button eyes, if removed are a choking hazard- as are the glass-bead eyes of the little mouse.
This listing includes the two owls and the knit bag that comes with the Mama Owl and little Marcella the Mouse who is considered part of the Owl family.
~ This little family is hand knit with love and guaranteed 100% to bring joy and good vibes~
