RARE signed Japanese antique Kinkozan Satsuma pottery bowl. This is a rare and unusual handmade signed Kinkozan Satsuma pottery bowl or vase dating from the 1800s using the moriage technique of raised enamel which creates a textured surface reminiscent of elaborate brocade. The moriage technique has been used in China and Japan for at least 200 years and is a time consuming process requiring multiple kiln firings. This piece is a lobed bowl resting on four feet. It measures approximately 8 inches wide and stands approximately 6 inches high. The interior is cream. It is signed on the bottom which translates to "Made by Kinkozan". The Kinkozan kilns' (1645-1927) main production period occurred approximately between 1875 and 1927 when the business was closed. This bowl is in good antique condition with only some rubbing to the gold rim which now shows wear from the passage of time. Each side of the bowl has a different decoration as shown in the photos. I acquired this piece from the estate of a collector who had lived in Japan for many years. It is a very special piece for the shrewd collector.
