What is curing a candle?

Candles are a bit like wine. The longer you let them sit in most cases, the better. In candle making "cure" refers to the chemical process that takes place as the wax and essential oil bind and blend fully into each other.

Your candle has likely been curated in advance of your purchase before it was shipped, but if you have any doubt or want to confirm the appropriate time to light up, send me a note!

Typically, 1 week for soy candles is an appropriate amount of time to allow your candle to settle and cure.

1. When lighting for the first time burn until wax melts across entire surface to the sides of container (this prevents tunneling, and creates an even burn for the duration of the candle’s ‘life’) This may take up to 2-4 hours.

2. Trim wick to 1/4 inch before each burn to promote an even burn, steady flame and limit sooting of wick.

3. If soot forms on the inside of container, extinguish candle, wait for it to cool, then wipe with a clean damp cloth. Trim wick and relight.

4. Avoid placing your candles where they will be directly exposed to sunlight/harsh indoor lighting.

5. Maximizing scent throw – open windows/doors will disperse scent. For maximum fragrance keep closed and burn in desired space for 30 mins before entering.
