A beautiful faerie sits on a branch in a woodland setting, as she glances over her shoulder the faerie realizes she's been spotted, a very unusual occurrence, thus the title "Seldom Seen". The faerie and branches are set in a frame, giving it a geometrical feel, the hard edges are softened by the scrollwork design above and below the rectangle.
The faerie pendant features 4 accent stones in descending size - 10mm, 8mm, 6mm and 5mm. There are 3 color ranges to choose from, the opaque pastels feature (from top to bottom) Aventurine, Pineapple Jasper, and Rhodonite with another Aventurine at the bottom. The black and white selection includes Rainbow Obsidian, Gray Moonstone and Rainbow Moonstone and Black Spinel on the bottom. The semi precious stone selection has Citrine, Garnet, Amethyst with another Citrine on the bottom. If there is a different stone selection that you prefer please let me know and I'll see if I can get the stone assortment you desire.
The silver fantasy pendant is 1 3/4 inches wide and 3 inches tall. The bail on the back of the faerie pendant accommodates a heavy cord, an 18" braided leather cord is included with this artisans jewelry. The angled and side views of the silver faerie pendant shows the dimension of the piece.
The idea for this pendant came from my own original drawing of a faerie sitting on a branch of a woodland setting, a rare sighting indeed. After that drawing had been completed I decided to scale it down and do a jewelry version of the same design. I then begin to sculpt everything in wax, first by using carving wax for the outside frame, then carefully sculpting the general form of the faerie and primary branch, overlaying it with detail of wings, facial features, hair and bark and finally mounting it all together. I've included photographs of both my drawing and the faerie as it appeared in wax before casting. After the wax sculpture is complete it is cast in sterling silver, excess metal is removed, rough polished, and patina applied and stones set. It is a time consuming process, but one that I thoroughly enjoy.
