My greatest love in the world is the ocean and when I became aware of how much plastic is entering our ocean and having a disastrous impact on marine life, I wanted to make a positive change. By choosing reusable, plastic free alternatives made from natural materials you are reducing the impact single use plastic has on our environment!
These straws are handmade from sustainable, chemical free bamboo grown in the hills of the Singaraja area of north Bali. Bamboo contains a substance called bamboo-kun which is an antimicrobial agent that gives bamboo a natural resistance to pests and fungi. These bamboo straws are antibacterial and biodegradable. The brush is also made from bamboo (Yay!! Personally I had been using a straw brush with nylon bristles, when I realised those little bristles were disappearing down my drain I was quick to find an alternative!!)
The straws come with a convenient cotton carry bag so you can keep them in your handbag/bag. The pack of 6 is practical for families, or to split up between your home/office/car/handbag etc. It feels really good to refuse plastic straws and whip out your BYO bamboo one, you'll find that it creates a lot of interest in cafes and bars and raises awareness of our ocean plastic problem.
To clean simply use the straw cleaner brush and hot soapy water then dry them in the sunshine or on a drying rack. Periodically you can soak them in hot soapy water and vinegar for about 20 minutes to sanitise them.
